USGBC Accepting Proposals For Annual Awards

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Green Building Council is accepting proposals from educators for its Excellence in Green Building Education Awards program.

The grants and awards are given to pre-k through university-level programs that promote USGBC guiding principals and goals outlined in the council’s Strategic Plan 2009-13, according to officials.

The USGBC will award a $10,000 grant to proposals in three categories: pre-k to 12th-grade teachers or curriculum specialists from public private or charter schools; community/technical college; and college/university.

Recognition awards will honor 15 courses, projects and activities with $1,000 honorariums in the same categories.

Nonprofit organizations, museums, foundations, historic sites and botanical gardens that develop green building education programs for the institutions in the three categories are also eligible, according to officials.

For profit companies, certificate granting or professional development institutions and individuals not affiliated with a nonprofit or educational institution are not eligible. The deadline for proposals is June 25.
