DLR to Modernize $150 Million High School

LOS ANGELES — Design firm DLR Group won a conceptual design competition with a unanimous vote by the judges to modernize Beverly Hills High School at an estimated cost of $150 million.

The firm beat out three other finalists for the contract to design the iconic high school, a part of the Beverly Hills Unified School District. The design team included architects from DLR’s Los Angeles, Seattle and Orlando offices.

Calif. Releases $961 Million for School Construction

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The state agency responsible for issuing funding for new public school construction and modernizations recently awarded $961 million to 185 schools seeking financing for construction and renovation projects.
 
Projects include more than $283 million for construction at overcrowded schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District, $52.5 million for new construction in the Murrieta Unified School District and $41 million for new construction in the Adelanto School District.

Study: Students Struggle to Pay for College

LOS ANGELES — A new study revealed that community college students are working an average of 23 hours per week to cover college costs, a work schedule that may be affecting academic performance.
 
According to the report by the California Student Public Interest Research Group titled “Working Too Hard to Make the Grade,” students could graduate faster and with better grades if they spent less time at their jobs and more time in the classroom.
