Landis C. Deck & Sons, Reading was contracted by the Tulpehocken School Board in a complete construction contract for the $613,900 construction project for the new baseball field and tennis courts.

Although the Pine Road Elementary School construction project got off schedule because of snow in December and rain in March, Gil Lappano, the projects clerk of the works, said things seem to be getting back on track.

MIDDLETOWN The Middletown School Board has taken the first step toward consideration of instituting a project labor agreement for construction of a new elementary school in the city. The vote to conduct a study of any savings was five to four Thursday night.

A roomful of willing employees and employers in need of workers packed the King Career Center auditorium. Students who took construction trade classes met with people in the business for job interviews.

OTHELLO Lutacaga Elementary School staff and students settled into the newly renovated and expanded facility this week. The Othello School District is hosting an open house for the public to view the facility on April 27 at 7 p.m. in Lutacagas gymnasium, located at 795 S. Seventh Ave.

Construction firms nationwide are having a hard time replacing skilled workers as they retire. A construction competition on the Northern Michigan University campus is trying to address that need.
