IOWA CITY, Iowa — Plans for an 800-bed residence hall approved by the University of Iowa Board of Regents in September 2014 were updated in February, increasing the building’s capacity to house more than 1,000 students. When completed, the 12-story, 303,000-square-foot building will be the largest student residence facility on campus.
The Board of Trustees of New York University recently announced the appointment of Vice Chancellor Andrew Hamilton as the university’s 16th president. Hamilton — a noted chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society and former Provost of Yale — will take up his duties in January 2016. At Yale, Hamilton was also the Benjamin Silliman Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry.

Spectronics Corp., which produces a variety of ultraviolet equipment and fluorescent materials for use in university laboratories, announced the promotion of Michael Fleming to director of product management. Fleming first joined the company 19 years ago as a sales application engineer, eventually moving to product manager and national sales manager. Before joining Spectronics, Fleming worked in the research and engineering labs of both Pall Corp. and Knogo North America.
