The Board of Trustees of New York University recently announced the appointment of Vice Chancellor Andrew Hamilton as the university’s 16th president. Hamilton — a noted chemist, Fellow of the Royal Society and former Provost of Yale — will take up his duties in January 2016. At Yale, Hamilton was also the Benjamin Silliman Professor of Chemistry and Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry.
Spectronics Corp., which produces a variety of ultraviolet equipment and fluorescent materials for use in university laboratories, announced the promotion of Michael Fleming to director of product management. Fleming first joined the company 19 years ago as a sales application engineer, eventually moving to product manager and national sales manager. Before joining Spectronics, Fleming worked in the research and engineering labs of both Pall Corp. and Knogo North America.
Pamela Anderson-Brulé, FAIA, principal at Anderson Brulé Architects in San Jose, Calif., recently became the first woman in Santa Clara County to be elevated to the College of Fellows in the American Institute of Architects, the highest rank in the institute’s membership. Anderson-Brulé has been nationally recognized for the new service and operational models developed for San José’s Martin Luther King, Jr.
HGA Architects and Engineers announced the hiring of Kaveh Amirdelfan, AIA, LEED AP BD+C as the new associate vice president and principal at the firm’s Los Angeles office. In this new role, Amirdelfan will direct client relations and new business development for the arts, community and higher education practice group. Amirdelfan was previously a principal with DLR Group in Santa Monica, Calif., serving as that firm’s higher education sector leader.
Dr. Gillian Chapman is the new superintendent of Teton County School District No. 1 in Jackson, Wyo., and will replace outgoing Superintendent Pam Shea. Chapman currently serves as the associate superintendent of Shawnee Mission Unified School District in Shawnee Mission, Kan. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in French at Pepperdine University before receiving her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Central Missouri State University, as well as a teaching certificate.
Quattrocchi Kwok Architects (QKA) Principal Aaron Jobson recently received Certified Educational Facility Planner (CEFP) designation through the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI). The CEFP credential was designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance and identify those in the educational environment industry who demonstrate the knowledge essential to the practice of educational facility planning.
Jonathan Kanda, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, was named principal at Los Angeles-based CO Architects after first joining the firm in 2003. Kanda has more than 20 years of architecture experience in the areas of medical education and university research facilities.
Robin L. Kanipe, P.E., Asheville, N.C. branch manager of SKA Consulting Engineers Inc., recently announced his April 2015 retirement from the firm. Kanipe, a 37-year veteran of the company, first joined SKA in March 1978 as an engineer in its Greensboro, N.C. headquarters. He later relocated to Asheville to expand SKA’s presence and reach into western North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
Evelyn Chiang was recently named the new integrated general manager at Haws Corporation, a drinking fountain design and manufacturing firm with numerous school and university clients. With a Bachelor of Science in aeronautics and astronautics engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Chiang brings more than 25 years of experience to Haws in global operations, program management, supply chain operations, information systems, and team leadership and development.
Juana Gomez, an associate and project manager with KSQ Architects, has been promoted to senior associate. Gomez joined the firm in 2009 and currently leads KSQ’s Oklahoma studio in Tulsa. There, she specializes in the project management of collegiate dining, health care and K-12 facilities. Gomez received her bachelor’s degree in architecture from Universidad del Zulia in Venezuela, and her master’s degree in architectural design from Florida International University.
