Athletic Facilities to Get Boost at Dominion
NORFOLK, Va.-Within the next two months, a construction phase is scheduled to begin at Dominion University that will improve six sports facilities.
One of the first projects scheduled is a new $6.2 million tennis center that will hold up to eight tennis courts, a pro shop, locker rooms and a lounge. The university’s existing 17 outdoor courts will be reconfigured into a dozen tennis courts.
Bids have already been returned for the project and one of three firms under consideration should be selected by Dec. 1. The project is scheduled for completion by fall 2006.
A $2.7 million redesign and upgrade to the athletic administration building is also planned. Additional upgrades to the university’s soccer complex are scheduled to cost $1.9 million, and new indoor batting cages will be installed for $250,000. A new wrestling facility and a recreational sports complex are planned for next year.
