Officials, Project Crew Celebrate City/School District Collaboration

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Stakeholders involved with the planning and construction of River City High School celebrated the near completion of the project with a dinner and reception next to the facility’s 32-foot rock-climbing wall.

Washington Unified School District and city officials worked closely on the 319,000-square-foot project to create amenities for students and community. The facility includes a recreation center that, in addition to the rock climbing wall, houses an aquatic center with water slides, tennis courts, athletic fields and other facilities.

The school features eight major buildings that were designed in a circular layout to create a large central courtyard. Teaching space was designed to provide traditional classrooms, while also allowing for small learning community environments.

The recreation center will remain open to the community while classes are in session, and during after school hours, buildings can be configured to allow the public to use the cafeteria, library/media center and a planned 450-seat visual and performing arts complex.

The school is scheduled to open in January following the holiday break.
