Several school construction projects are under way in Guilford County, and as the bids continue to come in, Guilford County School officials say they’re seeing some savings.

The recession has forced delays on five construction projects at state vocational-technical high schools, including Eli Whitney Technical High School in Hamden, but state legislation that passed unanimously this year could loosen up some funds.

The Mobridge-Pollock School District has been granted $4.555 million by the federal government to completely renovate the current middle school and complete construction of the new building project.

The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp. will conduct a second Construction Bus Trip from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to provide the public an opportunity to be updated on the status of construction under way at nine EVSC sites.

LONGMEADOW – With $34 million in state funds on the line, proponents of a $78 million Longmeadow High School construction and renovation project are urging residents to vote in favor of the financing needed for the project.

From the outside, it looks like any other school in Kabul. A red two-story building is sealed off from the street by a high wall. A few trees stand in the front yard. Children constantly go in and out.

BIG SPRING — Within the next two years, Big Spring Independent School District students will have three new elementary schools to attend and improvements to several other campuses.
