PPG introduces its new Sungate 600 glass, a passive, low-emissivity glass that’s designed to help buildings retain furnace and solar heat, ideal for environments in cold climates. The glass system features a pyrolitic coating developed specifically for application on the exposed room-side surface of an insulating glass unit. Offering durability, the coating is chemically bonded to the glass while still molten, while its star-crystalline structure gives Sungate 600 glass a smooth surface, allowing for easier cleanups. Placing the glass on the most interior surface of an IGU maximizes its ability to trap heat from the furnace and winter sun to further limit energy consumptions, according to the company. The Sungate 600 system can be used with PPG’s Solarban coated glasses for enhanced insulating value without the need for triple-glazing, according to the company.
