Julianne Scherer Named Region Civic Director for HDR

HDR’s Julianne Scherer has been named U.S. Central region civic director of the firm’s architecture practice. Most recently serving as managing principal of the Denver architecture studio, this elevation will empower Scherer to build multidisciplinary teams that strengthen client relationships and position the global design practice for regional growth.

As U.S. Central region civic director, Scherer will support HDR’s architecture studios in Colorado, Minnesota, Illinois, Nebraska, Missouri, and Texas to set goals and prioritize shared values that have positive impacts on client relationships and design outcomes. With more than 30 years of design, technical and project management experience, Scherer’s diverse skillset and expertise will enable teams to realize clients’ visions as new civic building typologies emerge and legacy structures evolve.

A recognized leader in the architecture profession across the U.S. and an engaged member of the Denver community, Scherer serves on the board of both the Governors for the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado chapter, of which she is a past president. She is also a committee member for the Downtown Denver Partnership’s urban exploration program and served on the 2025 AIA/American Library Association (ALA) Library Building Design Award jury.
