Michael Craig Smith, AIA, will serve as director of Hastings+Chivetta Architects’ new California office in Irvine, bringing with him 25 years of design and construction experience at California universities. Smith comes to Hastings+Chivetta from California State University at Fullerton where he completed more than 20 major capital projects worth a combined $500 million as the director of Design and Construction.
The International Living Future Institute announced the addition of Bob Berkebile to its team. Berkebile, an influential architect and green building pioneer, will serve as a senior strategic advisor to the institute in general and with the Living Product Challenge and Living Community Challenge specifically.

AIA Fellow Tom Laging, an emeritus professor of architecture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL), has been named the 2014 recipient of the Harry F. Cunningham Gold Medal for Architectural Excellence in Nebraska. The honor is the highest the Nebraska Chapter of the AIA bestows and recognizes distinguished achievement in architecture or service to the profession of architecture in the state.
The District of Columbia Society of Professional Engineers (DCSPE) recently named Lorraine Fleming Ph.D., interim dean of the Howard University College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences, its 2014 Engineer of the Year. Following a nationwide search, Concordia University Portland announced the addition of Jilma Meneses as chief operating officer (COO). Meneses has served as Portland State University’s chief diversity officer since 2010, serving on the president’s executive committee at the vice presidential level. She has over twenty years of administrative, legal, and business experience, including ten years at Oregon Health & Science University and eight years at Tri-Met.
Amale Andraos has been named the new dean of the Graduate School of Architect, Preservation and Planning at Columbia University in New York, where she has been a faculty member for the past three years. Andraos has also taught at Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and American University in her native Beirut.
Califone International Inc., a manufacturer of quality audio technology and sound presentation solutions for schools, industry, institutions and professional use, has announced the appointment of Charles Rosenbach as the firm’s general manager. Rosenbach has also served as chief financial officer and controller since joining Califone in 1995.
