Hobbs+Black Architects has announced the promotion of Thomas (TJ) Chasty to vice president of its Phoenix office. Chasty first joined Hobbs+Black in 2004 and worked in the firm’s Ann Arbor, Mich., office for seven years before volunteering to move to Arizona to help launch Hobbs+Black’s Phoenix office in 2011.
The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees has named Virginia (Ginny) Arthur president of Metropolitan State University, effective July 1. Arthur has served as provost of Metropolitan State University since 2012. She co-chaired the university’s strategic planning process; forged new baccalaureate completion partnerships with metro area colleges; and created the Center for Faculty Development.
Amanda Owens, project architect in HDR’s Denver architecture office, was recently promoted to associate. Owens, who has been with HDR for five years, has worked on high-profile projects including the University of Colorado Hospital inpatient tower and Anschutz Cancer Pavilion expansion. She is currently working on an expansion of the University of Colorado Boulder’s Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building.
Edmund M. Einy, FAIA, has joined Taylor Design, a solutions-oriented architecture, environmental and strategies firm. Serving as firm-wide director of architecture based in the company’s Irvine, Calif., office, Einy brings more than three decades of design and leadership experience creating forward-thinking structures and collaborative partnerships in health care, academic, government and commercial industries.
Meena Krenek, IIDA, LEED AP, an associate principal and interior designer formerly with the Atlanta office of Perkins+Will, recently joined the firm’s New York office. Krenek spent 10 years with the Atlanta office, earning global recognition for her work on transformational interiors projects such as the IMG College Building in Atlanta. Prior to joining Perkins+Will, Krenek worked with both Gensler and Niles Bolton Associates.
National architecture firm KSQ Design recently announced the addition of Mark McCarthy, AIA, LEED AP, as principal and national design director. McCarthy will work out of the firm’s White Plains, N.Y., and New York City offices. With a resume that includes international design experience, teaching in a New York City public middle school and working in graphic design, McCarthy brings a wealth of expertise and insight to the firm’s design team and clients.
Lewis Perkins has been appointed president of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute by the institute’s Board of Directors. Perkins had been serving as the organization’s interim president since October 2015. He first joined the institute as senior vice president in 2012, prior to which he was director of sustainable strategies for The Mohawk Group.
The Rochester, Minn., office of HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) recently announced the addition of Dawn Vickerman as the firm’s business developer directing new business opportunities for HGA’s growing healthcare, corporate and higher education market sectors. Vickerman has more than 20 years’ experience in sales, marketing and customer service. She studied at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and Winona State University in Minnesota.
Tarkett, a global leader in flooring and sports surfaces solutions, announced that Len Ferro has been named president of the Tandus Centiva business division of Tarkett North America. Ferro succeeds Glen Hussmann who announced his retirement in January. Ferro brings significant expertise, knowledge and experience to his new role, having served most recently as Tandus Centiva’s chief operating officer (COO) since 2013 and previously as the chief financial officer (CFO) from 2004.
Shen Milsom & Wilke LLC (SM&W) announced the appointment of Tom Shen to president and chief executive officer. Shen has spent 21 years at the firm, including seven years managing the San Francisco office. Prior to his appointment as CEO, Shen served as the firm’s managing partner, playing a critical role in many of its most complex and demanding projects while also helping to manage the firm’s global resources to unify coordination efforts on multi-discipline projects.
