Atlanta Christian School Opens Multi-Million Dollar Natatorium

ATLANTA — The Greater Atlanta Christian School’s new $7.2 million aquatic center opened with a home win for the school’s swim team after construction was completed two days ahead of schedule.

The nearly 27,000-square-foot structure houses a competition-standard swimming pool, 16 poured-in-place starting blocks and a 13-foot deep, three-platform diving area. The building was completed in less than 37 weeks.

The brick natatorium also features a wet classroom, locker rooms and a concession area. Pool and non-pool areas were designed with separate HVAC systems for improved efficiency, officials say.

The facility’s pool-pack unit keeps water temperature between 78 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit, and air temperature one-degree Fahrenheit warmer to dehumidify the pool area and minimize condensation. Exposed white-fabric ductwork also inhibits condensation.

The Freeman aquatics center was developed as part of school’s 74-acre campus master plan.
