TAC Awarded $14 Million in Energy Contracts
DALLAS — TAC, a provider of building automations operations, has signed more than $14 million in performance contracts nationwide with schools that are interested in reducing their ecological footprint
TAC signed a $10 million performance contract with East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania that could save the school more than $90,000 annually. The project will help simplify operations and improve approximately 1.4 million square feet of campus space.
The company will install several energy-efficient products, including HVAC improvements and the installation of direct digital controls for improved maintenance. The company will upgrade boilers with controls and economizers, provide humidity control, and add energy-efficient lighting and water-efficient plumbing fixtures.
Crockett Independent School District in Crockett, Texas, signed a $700,000 performance contract with TAC for facility upgrades at the district’s three schools; the company estimates the district will save at least $76,500 per year in utility costs as a result.
CISD has struggled with increased utility costs, outdated and ineffective building automation equipment, poor lighting, inadequate security at the high school and high water costs for irrigation of the district’s athletic fields.
TAC will implement a centralized energy management system and provide staff training for system maintenance and operations. Direct digital controls will manage HVAC systems, and energy-efficient lighting will be installed as part of the contract. TAC will also excavate an irrigation well for watering athletic fields. A new surveillance system at the high school will allow administrators to monitor the campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TAC will also provide utility tracking called Performance Assurance Support Services, which will show the district how much it is saving each month.
The Portland Independent School District in Portland, Texas, signed a $3.7 million contract with TAC that is expected to save the district more than $350,000 annually. It is looking to address mechanical equipment malfunctions, water leaks in roofs, aging lighting systems, inefficient and antiquated plumbing fixtures, and a lack of districtwide control of building equipment usage.
The company will replace and repair HVAC systems and components, upgrade lighting to T8 fluorescent lamps with electronic ballasts, replace roofs on four buildings and upgrade plumbing systems. A TAC Vista energy management system will link each facility together. The system will include a central workstation for accessing and programming the system at any school through a graphical user interface, and a laptop will be provided for remote EMS access.
The Stewart County School System in Lumpkin, Ga., is the first school system in the state to receive the Energy Star designation for its energy-efficient schools. A $458,000 performance contract was signed with TAC to help the district with inadequate ventilation, poor lighting and high utility costs. The company installed seven new HVAC units and more efficient lighting systems, and recommissioned exhaust fans to improve airflow and ventilation. An EMS was also installed, which enables facility managers to access the elementary campus from a workstation at the high school. The school is saving more than $38,000 per year since the project’s completion in June 2005.
