Claremont McKenna Undergoes $9.5 Million Renovation

CLAREMONT, Calif. — A $9.5 million renovation of 40-year-old, side-by-side residence halls is complete at Claremont McKenna College, allowing students to move in for the 2008-09 school year.

The two eight-story structures, Auen and Fawcett halls, received seismic upgrades, hazardous waste removal, installation of new HVAC and electrical systems and the renovation of all bathrooms, laundry rooms, IT rooms, study areas and lounges.

The two halls have identical 24,264-square-foot, 72-bed layouts. The first floors contain a two-bedroom apartment for the residence advisor, a study room and a student lounge. The second floor includes a laundry room, storage and building support space. The third through eighth floors contain four single rooms and four double rooms.

La Canada Design Group, of Pasadena, served as project architect, and gkkworks, of Irvine, provided construction management services. The general contractor was Tovey/Shultz Construction, of Lake Elsinore.
