Turner to Manage $102 Million in LA School Projects

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Unified School District has chosen Turner Construction Co. as the construction manager for two elementary school projects and one high school project, the latter of which will include building eight separate facilities to house 30 classrooms. The three schools will all be located in Los Angeles and together total $102 million in construction, adding to more than 20 educational projects and upwards of $600 million in work that Turner has managed for the LAUSD.

The recently awarded contracts include the $22.5 million South Region Elementary School No. 11, a 63,400-square-foot facility that will house 32 classrooms, library, kitchen, and feature an exterior courtyard. The elementary school project is scheduled for completion in November 2012. Turner will also oversee the $23.5 million South Region Elementary School No. 12, a 67,500-square-foot facility with 32 classrooms, outdoor cafeteria space, and natural turf fields, all of which is expected complete by November 2012.

For the $56 million South Region High School No. 15, Turner will build 30 classrooms, performing arts spaces, a library, multi-purpose room, gymnasium, and pool into 133,000 square feet of space.

“We are proud to continue our relationship with the Los Angeles Unified School District with the construction of these three schools,” says Kevin Dow, Turner’s general manager of operations and vice president in Southern California.

Elsewhere around the country, the global contractor has some $2.3 billion in education and science projects it is currently managing. Turner’s Dallas office recently completed fourteen K-12 schools, representing $43 million in projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. In Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, Turner has completed construction of sixteen K-12 schools in time for the new school year.
