Washington Schools Wait on State Funding

LAUREL, Wash. — Construction of the new greenhouse at Meridian High School — the first phase of rebuilding the campus — has begun, with much of the project slated to begin in early 2011.
ENID, Okla. — Construction will begin this summer on a student drop-off and loading zone at Longfellow Middle School, officials announced. A blinking stop light at Randolph and 10th and a mid-block crossing in front of the school will also be installed.
The project is being funded by a $200,000 grant from the 2009-2010 Safe Routes to School Program awarded to middle schools to teach students safer ways for getting to and from school every day.
PALM DESERT, Calif. — A Southern California real estate/renewable energy development and investment firm is installing a 300-kilowatt solar power system at Xavier College Preparatory High School in Palm Desert. The project, which is being produced by Palm Desert-based Noble and Co., will be completed in early January. Officials estimate the project will generate 80 to 100 percent of the school’s energy needs.
