Ken Sammons

Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash., recently announced the retirement of Ken Sammons, the campus’ longtime plant and construction services leader.

For the past 55 years, Sammons has overseen 100 buildings and 150 acres on the University grounds. He has also overseen the design and construction of more than three dozen buildings and fields at Gonzaga University and ensured resources were available to maintain and upgrade structures and systems. Sammons and his department also pioneered energy conservation and carbon-emission reduction and ensured the safety of students and University infrastructure through inclement weather and the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Ken cared for our campus as if it were his personal responsibility,” said Chuck Murphy, chief strategy officer, who served as Sammons’ supervisor, in a statement. “To him it was not just a job. It was both his vocation and avocation. He was a true servant leader in every way.”
