Jim Schmidt Leads James Madison University into New Academic Year

Jim Schmidt has officially started his new role as the seventh president of James Madison University, marking a new chaptper in the institution’s leadership. Schmidt was announced as JMU’s next president in March, following a national search. He brings more than a decade of leadership experience from his previous role as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, where he served since 2013. He is also the former vice president for university advancement at Winona State University in Winona, Minn., and vice president for student affairs at Riverland Community College in Austin, Minn. He holds a doctorate in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and a bachelor’s degree in political science from Winona State University.
