Kennedy Assassin Delays School Project
LOS ANGELES-The Los Angeles Unified School Board’s plans to build a school on the site of the city’s famous – and infamous – Ambassador Hotel are being held up in court by Robert Kennedy’s assassin, Sirhan Sirhan.
Attorney Lawrence Teeter, Sirhan Sirhan’s lawyer, went to court to stop the hotel’s demolition, saying the building’s walls could contain evidence exonerating Sirhan Sirhan who was convicted of shooting Senator Kennedy in the Ambassador Hotel’s kitchen. The Assassination Archives and Research Center and the Committee to Preserve Assassination Sites have joined Teeter in the lawsuit.
The Los Angeles Unified School Board’s general counsel is surprised by the suit, especially since Sirhan Sirhan confessed to killing the presidential hopeful. However, lawyers for Sirhan Sirhan assert that he was set up and that there was more than one shooter.
Robert Kennedy’s family supports plans to demolish the hotel and think that building a school on the site would be a fitting tribute to the late New York senator.
