Senate Bill Increases Funding for Education

JUNEAU, Alaska-If approved, Senate Bill 155 would provide $400 million for school and higher education construction and maintenance projects. Part of the money would fund construction of an integrated science complex at the University of Alaska in Anchorage. Although the purpose of the bill has widespread support among legislators, its passage is not certain. Some legislators do not believe that the funds should come from the earnings reserve account of the permanent fund, as proposed.

As of press time, the bill was with the House Finance Committee.
