Texas High School Gets Video Security System

ELGIN, Texas-In an effort to enhance school safety, ADT Security Services Inc. has donated a complete digital video surveillance and recording system, including equipment, labor and one year of maintenance, to Elgin High School, a 950-student public school.

The system includes 22 high-resolution day/night cameras and a digital management system allows for video-based motion detection, object search and digital video enhancement. An observation monitor in the front office displays several different camera views, while a second monitor lets school administrators view activity in real time and investigate any problems. According to Patrick Fiel, public safety adviser for education for ADT, the company is seeking to broaden its market by working with 6,000 school districts across the country. The company is also Fiel says that ADT works with each individual school district to determine the schools’ needs. “It’s a partnership,” Fiels says. “You don’t just go into schools and start putting up cameras, because they might not be effective.” Once ADT comes up with a security solution for the school, it either donates the materials outright, as it did for Elgin High School, or it loans out the system for a free trial period so that the school can try before it buys.

ADT is also attempting to reach out to colleges and universities.
