USG Offers New Sustainability Information
CHICAGO-Responding to the educational construction industry’s interest in sustainable construction, USG Corp. expanded the environmental responsibility section of its Web site.
The new information includes-product sustainability table featuring specifications on post-consumer and post-industrial recycled content, densities, VOCs, and manufacturing efficiencies and raw materials for many products manufactured United States Gypsum Company and USG Interiors Inc.
The site also links to USG’s response and products as related to the American Society for Testing and Materials’ ASTM E 2129 Standard Practice for Data Collection for Sustainability Assessment of Building products.
USG has used 100 percent recycled face and back papers in all its gypsum panels since the 1960s. No bleach is used in any of its production processes. USG uses 650,000 tons per year of secondary fiber (waste paper) to manufacture wallboards and ceiling products, according to the company.
