Texas ISD Multi-Facility Expansion Project Fast-tracked

RICHARDSON, Texas — Richardson Independent School District has contracted with Texas construction firm Cadence McShane and PBK architects to fast track an $11.5 million expansion and renovation project for summer completion.

Covering four of the district’s high schools, the project is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. The 17,000-square-foot expansion of Lake Highlands High School will feature a new main entrance with limestone and granite panels, steel beams and glazing.

A central interior courtyard will be in-filled with a two-story building with flexible-use classrooms, technology facilities, a dance studio and cosmetology suite. The project includes the addition of an athletic training facility with faculty offices and sports treatment facilities. Administrative offices will be renovated and expanded.

Richardson High School’s 6,700-square-foot building addition will offer facilities for automobile trades, including an auto shop, repair bays, classrooms and gated parking. In addition, construction trades laboratories will be renovated and the school’s existing greenhouse will be replaced.

The renovation of existing classroom space at Berkner High School will provide a new cosmetology laboratory and instruction area, and J.J. Pearce High School will undergo general improvements, but no expansion.

New flooring, ceiling and ceramic wall-tile finishes are planned for corridors and classrooms at all four schools.

Richardson Independent School District is 10 miles north of Dallas and operates 55 elementary, junior high and high schools with 34,000 students.
