Wall System
Marlite Inc. introduces Myriad Wall Systems, a pre-engineered hardware system of extruded aluminum framework that can be used with interchangeable panels. The system allows a wide variety of materials to snap in and out of the framework, enabling users to mix, match, accent, change and illuminate wall statements.
The frames can be removed with a putty knife or plastic burnishing tool, and are available in transparent, translucent, opaque and custom-made models.
Stainless Steel Paint
The Steel It is a stainless steel epoxy system from Stainless Steel Coatings Inc. that protects above-water structures from water, salt air, detergents and solvents. It consists of an epoxy primer and finish coating with a 316L stainless steel leafing pigment that creates a gray satin finish.
The paint is available in gallon and quart kits, and can be applied by brush, roller or spray gun. It is chip-resistant and forms a protective metallic barrier capable of withstanding a continuous 2,000-hour salt spray test.
Interior Brick
Boral Bricks Inc. manufactures the Thin Brick, a flat brick for wall installations designed to provide the appearance a real brick façade. The bricks are .75 inch thick, weigh less than one pound per piece, and can be installed flush with surfaces such as doors and window sills.
They feature a rough, handmade texture and are offered in variety of colors, including gray-taupe, traditional red, rustic brown and caramel-gray.
Pendant Lighting Fixture
The Mini-Clareta from d’ac Lighting is a small-scale pendant luminaire that provides a cone-shaped beam of light. The style is reminiscent of the 1950s and is suitable for building entryways, hallways, meeting rooms and offices. The light is suspended from the ceiling via height-adjustable, aircraft-grade support cables. A .5-inch-diameter rigid stem may also be specified instead of cables.
It features a bell-shaped shade, a curved top cap, a visually balancing trim ring and faux edge clamps.
Sound System
The Pro Digital from FrontRow is a classroom sound system that uses digital signal processing and digital command and control. The product includes a digital microphone for teachers to wear around their neck, and ceiling or wall speakers and a receiver unit so that his or her voice may be broadcast throughout the classroom.
The system can be activated by turning on the microphone and automatically deactivated by turning the microphone off. A pass-around microphone for student participation is also available.
Commercial Carpeting
Tandus has created a large-scale patterned floor covering designed specifically for schools and facilities with wide hallways. It is available in 6-foot Powerbond and monolithic tile in 18-inch x 18-inch and 36-inch x 36-inch sizes.
The product is 75 percent solution-dyed and 25 percent yarn-dyed, and is made with a minimum of 31 percent overall recycled content. Available in seven color variations, it is constructed of Stratatec patterned loop.
Hand Dryer
Mitsubishi Electric HVAC Advanced Products Division recently updated its high-speed Jet Towel hand dryer with a built-in, energy-efficient heater. The product never comes in contact with hands, increasing sanitary conditions, and takes between five and six seconds to dry hands, according to the manufacturer. It is available in a 120V model and installation requires no reinforcement.
Water from the user’s hands is collected in the unit’s drain tank, keeping bathroom floors dry. It will automatically shut off after 30 seconds of use and can be mounted at any level.
