Feds Fund Arizona Charter School Program
MESA, Ariz. — Sequoia Charter School has been awarded a more than $1 million federal grant to establish an after-school learning center here.
The State Board of Education awarded the 21st Century Learning Center grant, worth more than $1.1 million, to the charter school, which is operated by Choice Education and Development Corporation, to provide free academic, enrichment and recreational programs to Sequoia’s K-12 students and their families, officials say.
The learning center, which will be located on Sequoia’s recently renovated 84,000-square-foot campus, will offer tutoring with teachers to help with homework assignments, test preparation and coursework revision, officials say.
Recreational activities will include arts, music and drama, team sports and martial arts. Adult programs will focus on effective parenting skills, computer literacy and English as a second language, officials say.
