InPro JointMaster Systems Used in Renovation of Stadium
MADISON, Wis.-Nearly a mile and a half of JointMaster architectural expansion joint and fire-barrier systems have been installed in a major renovation and build up of Camp Randall Stadium at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. The InPro systems are part of a $110 million, multi-year renovation project to completely revamp Camp Randall, including improvements to all the seating sections and a new athletic office building.
InPro’s JointMaster division designs and manufactures a line of architectural joint systems that accommodate all types of building movement – thermal, seismic and windload – induced in both exterior and interior applications.
Four different series of JointMaster systems were used in both surface and recessed-mount applications. The systems had to accommodate a range of joint widths from 2 inches to 10 inches. Series 100, 300, 400 and 800 products were used on interior conditions. Series 600 Elastomeric and metal seismic systems were used on all exterior conditions. Additionally, nearly 1,700 linear feet of 900 Series Reactofire fire-blanket systems were used in conjunction with the joint systems.
The original bowl at Camp Randall, built in 1917, is being preserved and a nine-story structure has been added to the east side of the stadium. This will boost the seating capacity from 76,000 to 81,000. The actual number of seats being added is 13,500, but the design will take out limited-view seating, as well as seats that do not comply with current codes. The design also calls for 72 suites, 644 club seats and 300 premium seats.
The new office building and ticket office will be located in the southeast corner of the stadium. In addition, new field lighting, a video scoreboard and sound system will round out the renovations.
The entire construction and renovation of Camp Randall had to be coordinated by general contractor Cullen-Smith LLC of Madison, Wis., to accommodate the Wisconsin Badger football season. The first phase started on November 24, 2003, and had to be completed before the Badgers kicked off their 2004 season. The second phase is scheduled for completion in time for the start of the 2005 season, and includes all renovation and expansion work on existing concourses, restrooms, entry gates, concession areas and the football office space.
