New Jersey Firm Wins Award for School Construction

TOMS RIVER, N.J.-Hanifin Associates Inc., a construction management firm, received the 2004 Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Project Achievement Award for its role in a $52 million five-school construction and renovation project in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.

The award, in the Public Project with a Constructed Value Less than $100 Million category, was presented at CMAA’s national conference in San Antonio, Texas. Hanifin Associates coordinated the design and construction activities on a building program that involved construction of a new grades 3-4 elementary school and additions and alterations at the Township High School and three elementary schools.

The company was among 70 entries competing for awards from CMAA, an internationally recognized professional association for construction management. In evaluating entries, the awards committee considered project outcomes, overall project management approach, safety, quality, cost, schedule, project complexity, innovation and creativity, and customer satisfaction as key criteria.

Much of the construction took place while the schools were in session. The high school project included 230,000 square feet of renovations in the midst of an academic program that included 1,900 students. An aggressive summer construction schedule took place at two of the elementary schools where alterations valued between $4 million and $5 million were successfully completed over the course of eight weeks.
