OMAHA, Neb.-On February 15, voters gave the Millard Public School District reason to celebrate. The district’s $78 million building plan was approved by 57 percent of the voters, making it the 13th straight bond passed in Millard. The plan involves spending $15.8 million on the construction of two elementary schools, $2.9 million to remodel one existing elementary school, $8.6 million to build a non-traditional high school, $20.2 million to renovate the district’s three high schools, and $3.2 million for a middle school expansion.
Additionally, $20 million will be used to make district-wide technology improvements and $1.4 million would go toward new artificial turf and other improvements at Buell Stadium. Approximately $2.5 million would be placed in a contingency fund.
The school district has more than 20,000 students, making it Nebraska’s third-largest district. Officials told voters that the new construction, renovations and upgrades were necessary to support growing student populations.
