New Jersey Voters Approve Five School Construction Proposals

TRENTON , N.J. — Voters in five of seven school districts approved school construction proposals totaling $78 million on Feb. 24, the New Jersey School Boards Association reported.


• In Atlantic County
Hammonton—Approved
Construct an addition, replace the roof and convert a wing of Hammonton Middle School into additional classrooms.
$2.6 million – total


• In Mercer County
West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional—Approved (both questions)
Proposal 1: Additions and renovations to five schools.
$25.2 million – total
Proposal 2: Reconstruct athletic fields at high schools with artificial turf
$2.3 million – total


• In Middlesex County
Monroe Township —Approved
Construct a new elementary school
$26.8 million – total


• In Wanaque—Approved
Renovations at two elementary schools
$18.3 million – total


• In Somerset County
Watchung Hills Regional—Approved
Funds to complete high-school renovations and additions that were approved by voters on January 28, 2003.
$3.3 million – total
New Jersey State law limits school special elections to five specific dates a year. The next school election will be March 14.
