Concrete Floor System Increases Energy Efficiency in Schools
Omaha, Neb. — The FGS/ PermaShine Polished Concrete Floor System, from L&M Construction Chemicals Inc., is one more item schools can add to the list of environmentally friendly building products.
The floor process helps optimize energy performance throughout school buildings by using the thermal mass of the concrete floor and a reflective finish. It complies with strict building performance guidelines for schools and can assist building teams with other energy and environmental quality standards.
FGS/PermaShine is made with VOC-free raw materials that result in a high-traction floor finish, and is offered in pigment dye products that can improve daylighting.
The high gloss of the system creates a light-reflectant surface that maximizes the use of natural light for increased energy savings, as well as adding to occupant productivity, according to reports.
The system complies with California ‘s Collaborative for High Performance School ‘s low-emitting materials criteria for use in classrooms, and qualifies for points under the indoor environmental quality category. It can be applied to an existing or reused concrete floor, and earns points toward the CHPS recycled content credit.
Polished concrete provides a solid finish for high-traffic areas, including hallways, classrooms and cafeterias. The system meets all ADA and OSHA requirements and recommendations for nonslip floors.
