Dedication Held for $302 Million Medical Center
PHILADELPHIA — A new facility for advanced medicine at the University of Pennsylvania that is designed to meet LEED certification standards was dedicated in October.
The $302 million, 500,000-square-foot Ruth and Raymond Perelman Center for Advanced medicine is expected to be fully complete early next year. It will house 12 clinical specialties, 225 exam rooms, 84 private chemotherapy infusion bays and an outpatient surgical pavilion with eight 600-square-foot operating rooms.
When it is fully operational, the facility is expected to serve 300,000 patient visits a year and directly or indirectly create more than 2,700 jobs, according to the university.
The facility is designed to create efficiencies for outpatients with heart, lung, vascular and digestive diseases. Physicians will be located near reconstructive surgeons who work in adjacent treatment areas to make it easier for patients to plan and receive care. The layout will allow physicians to confer with specialists to ensure the proper treatment, according to officials.
The facility was designed by a joint-venture composed of Perkins Eastman and Rafael Vinoly Architects. It features a large glass atrium that serves as a central welcoming place and sits adjacent to dining and retail areas.
