General Contractor Chosen for Alabama High School Stadium

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Birmingham’s own general contractor Argo Building Company has been chosen to build a new football stadium at the city’s Woodlawn High School.  The stadium and field house, which were designed by Charles Williams & Associates Architects, carries a construction price tag of $8.7 million.

According to AL.com, Woodlawn is one of only two high schools in Birmingham that does not currently have a football venue.  Previously, Woodlawn would have to play its games at the nearby Lawson Field.

The stadium will be situated on the Woodlawn school’s existing practice field.  The stadium, which will have artificial turf, will be able to hold nearly 3,000 students and fans.

In a recent statement regarding the project, Birmingham Schools Superintendent Mark Sullivan said that he believes the stadium will be a boon not only for the sports scene at Woodlawn but also for the surrounding community in general.

“Woodlawn has a rich history of excellence in academics and athletics.  We are pleased to have the support of the Board of Education on this project,” Sullivan said in his statement.

Construction is now underway, with a projected completion of this fall.

Argo Building Company’s other educational projects in Alabama include McCalla Elementary School in Bessemer and Fairfield High Preparatory School in Fairfield.
