Q&A: Learning Beyond the Classroom
Today, learning occurs everywhere, which is why architects have started designing both formal and informal educational spaces to include the collaborative, high-tech learning features that stu-dents require outside of the traditional classroom.


The Wyoming State Legislature established the School Facilities Department (SFD) in 2002 to oversee construction of K-12 schools throughout the state. Since then, Wyoming has built more than 75 new schools and spent an estimated $3.5 billion on the construction, renovation and maintenance of its educational facilities.
MANCHESTER, Mass. — A nearly 21,500-square-foot renovation and expansion of the Brookwood School in Manchester, Mass. was completed in late 2014 after just 18 months of construction. The project wrapped up three months ahead of schedule and came in under budget.
JACKSON, Mich. — Construction is underway on a new dormitory at Jackson College, while renovations at the school’s Bert Walker Hall are scheduled to start in May.
