Amy Yurko

Amy Yurko, AIA, is the recipient of the 2011 Planner of the Year award, the highest and most distinguished individual honor conferred by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International. The Planner of the Year award is presented annually to the individual whose professional facility planning activities have produced a positive and significant regional, national and/or international impact on educational facility planning.

As a licensed architect and founder of BrainSpaces, Amy Yurko has been involved in educational facility planning across North America and the world. Her dedication to the development of superior learning environments is not only expressed through her professional planning activities, but through her work as an educator and as a volunteer to construct schools for underprivileged communities in South America,” noted David Edwards, CEFPI chair.

Yurko aims to bridge the gap between architecture and education to ensure that the goals of creating effective learning environments that contribute to student success are supported. She ensures that site-based distinctions are recognized and accommodated, while incorporating and adapting innovative solutions and best practices from around the world.
